Prospect Local Environment Group (PLEG) had its beginnings in 2006 following a suggestion made from former members of the Prospect Nuclear Free Zone Campaign (1983-1985). They saw the need to establish a new group called Prospect Residents for Forum for Environmental Responsibility Inc (PREFER) to advocate on behalf of residents in the City of Prospect.
In 2008, a constitution was developed and at its Inaugural Annual General Meeting on Sunday 9th November 2008 the community group was established.
The inaugural Office Bearers and Committee were elected at the AGM in 2009 (see photo above):
Chairperson - Kevin Sprajcer
Treasurer - Chris Hannaford
Minutes Secretary - Carole Grubisa
Ordinary Committee Members:
Jenny Smith
Lindy Neilson
Grace Fitzpatrick
Tiana Della Putta
Kristina Barnett
A workshop followed with the goal of developing a community environmental action plan. Approximately 90 local residents and invited experts contributed ideas in round table discussions to list achievable local community environmental actions, focusing around three major themes, local food, local energy, local transport:
In 2015, the major themes were expanded to: ‘Local energy, Local food, Local recycling, Local transport’
On 23 March 2015, our name was officially changed to Prospect Local Environment Group Inc (PLEG).
On 27 November 2024, the constitution was revised to broaden our environmental purposes to a wider community embracing protection, preservation and enhancement of the natural environment and its biodiversity; advocating on issues affecting the environment and promotion of an ecologically sustainable community.
